A World War II veteran, John F. Ginty, Sr. began selling plumbing supplies to local contractors
in the Walnut Creek area in 1947.
From the trunk of his car, he would go to job sites to deliver and get his next order.
By 1948, he decided to go into the business on a full time basis. |
The Ginty Supply Company was founded on November 22, 1948.
Its first location was at 2750 Mt Diablo Blvd (now known as Camino Diablo).
In 1952, the growing corporation moved into a new building built for the company at 2094 Mt Diablo Blvd, its present location.
For the next forty-one years, John Ginty provided the burgeoning Walnut Creek/Contra Costa County area with quality
materials and service which earned his company its excellant reputation. |
In 1976 the firm expanded when John Ginty's son, John F Ginty, Jr. opened Ginty Supply of Auburn on
Highway 49 just north of Auburn, California. This new store brought the Ginty Supply quality and service to the foothills.

The elder Mr. Ginty passed away in 1994, much to the sorrow of his family, employees, customers and the community.
In an article reviewing his life, the Contra Costa Times noted he "helped build a city from what was once a town of ranchers and farmers...He is one of the icons of Walnut Creek".

Following Mr. Ginty's death, his wife, Elizabeth, took over the executive management of the company. In 1999, the family closed its original Walnut Creek store to concentrate on it Auburn operation. The company is also in the process of designing and implementing an e-commerce site for speciality plumbing supplies.
The company is still under the management of the Ginty family after nearly 50 years.
